This may take the form where all instruments play the verse together, and then several or all instruments individually repeat the verse as solo parts. A breakdown is a popular musical style particularly in bluegrass, notable examples being Earl Scruggs' "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" and Bill Monroe's "Bluegrass Breakdown". Disco Disco DJ, mixer and remixer Tom Moulton invented the "disco break" or breakdown section in the early 1970s. Moulton had been remixing a dance record ("Dreamworld" by Don Downing) which "immaculated" (went to a higher key) towards the end, and he wanted to cut parts together that were in different keys. To do this, he separated two sections with non-tonal information. He edited in a section of drums, and the aesthetic effect was pleasing to dancers at the club. The placement was also useful for club DJ's, providing a rhythm-only section of the recording over which to begin mixing in the next record. Moulton says his innovation was an accident. The placement followed the pattern of a traditional pop recording: it replaced the bridge typically found in such a record after the second chorus. A lounge zene etnikus elemeket, illetve filmzenei témákat felhasználva, az akusztikus jazz valamint a modern elektronika kiaknázatlan tárházából merítve, könnyen emészthető, dallamos, változatos zenét vonultat fel. Nem pörget, hanem elgondolkoztat: értéke maga a harmónia. Hotelek, kaszinók és barátságos hangulatú bárok klasszikus szereplője. Legtöbbször más zenei műfajok nagy klasszikusainak feldolgozásait hallhatjuk vissza. Gyökerei az ötvenes-hatvanas évekre nyúlnak vissza, de a modern lounge a kilencvenes években kezdett hódítani olyan együttesek és zenészek által, mint Love Jones, The Coctails és Combustible Edison. At its core, groove metal takes the intensity and sonic qualities of thrash metal and plays them at mid-tempo, with most bands making only occasional forays into fast tempo. Characteristics and origins: Pantera's Cowboys from Hell album from 1990 was described as "groundbreaking" and "blueprint-defining" for the groove metal genre. King's X has been called the progenitors of the genre and their 1988 debut album Out of the Silent Planet is often cited as one of the major influences for groove metal, with dropped open tuning and lower, even tempos. Confusion: Hard house is similar to, but distinct from hardstyle. Confusion can sometimes arise as some club nights and events will play both hardstyle and hard house. This may be because hardstyle is quite well-known across western Europe, whereas hard house has only ever had a limited audience outside of the UK, so there is more new music being released in the hardstyle scene. Hardstyle Stylistic origins: Hard house, mainstream hardcore techno/trance, industrial music, hard trance, New Beat Cultural origins: Late 1990s - early 2000s (decade), Netherlands Hardstyle is an electronic dance genre mixing influences from techno and hardcore. Early hardstyle typically consisted of an overdriven and hard-sounding kick drum with a lot of sustain, with intense faded or reversed basslines accompanying the beat. Hardstyle also utilises harsh and distorted synths, detuned and distorted sounds accompanying the main instruments along with a lot of modern hardstyle songs that also incorporate poetry and story telling within the music. The natural evolution of music has seen hardstyle mellow out over time. What was once a very dark, assertive and powerful genre began to incorporate trance-like synths and uplifting melodies. Modern kicks are also now layered, with multiple layers of higher frequency distorted kicks, combining with a lower frequency tremble to create a thicker and fuller kick drum. During the mid-late 2000s, pitching kicks became popular in hardstyle as well, and all this has led to hardstyle becoming more accessible and popularity increased. Many hardcore artists produce hardstyle tracks as well, and many newer Hardstyle tracks are written in compound time (for example, older Headhunterz and Noisecontrollers work). Hardstyle has also been an influence on other styles of electronic dance music as well, most notably big room house, that shares similarities with hardstyle, like structures, rhythms and later pitched kicks. Artists who are linked with hardstyle have found significant success within house. These artists include Martin Garrix, Showtek, Headhunterz, D-Block & S-te-Fan and Maarten Vorwerk. A stílus igazán Gigi D'Agostino miatt vált népszerűvé, így őt tartják a hangzásvilág megteremtőjének. Jellemzője: 80-120 bpm közötti tempó. Sok rokonságot mutat a hardstyle-lal, a bassline és a hardstyle és hardcore stílusokból merített dobhasználat miatt. Míg az energikus, kemény hangzású techno erősen táncparkett-irányultságú volt, addig az IDM a fejet, az agyat célozta meg kissé lassabb, kevésbé agresszív, és sokkal dallamosabb, művészi és improvizatívabb hangzásával. Áttekintés Az IDM kezdetben zenei magazinokban tűnt fel az első hullámában 1992-93 környékén, de nem igazán ragadt meg az első IDM hírlevél alakulásáig 1993 augusztusában. Ez időben a hírlevél Richard D. James és még néhány, a Warp Records-nál megjelent Artificial Intelligence válogatáson feltűnt szerző progresszív elektronikus zenéjére koncentrált. Ezeken az előadókon kívül még a Black Dog Productions (később Plaid) és a B12/Redcell voltak még ebben a stílusban alkotók. Habár a fentebb említett előadók mind angol művészek voltak, a berlini Sun Electric duó szintén öreg motorosnak számít ebben a stílusban. Az "intelligens tánczene" kifejezést sokszor kritizálják, mert egyesek szerint nem adja vissza ennek a zenei stílusnak a lényegét. Így van-e vagy sem az intelligencia és tánc szavak jobban megjegyezhetőnek bizonyultak, mint más próbálkozások a stílus megnevezésére. A stílust becsmérlők esetenként a "delfinzene" kifejezést használták az intelligens szó egy gúnyos alternatívájaként. A '90-es évek közepén el-eltűnő stílus az ezredfordulón újjáéledt. Egyre több előadó egyre több és különböző stílust kombinál igen innovatív módon. Ezek szerint elmondható, hogy ez a stílus képviseli a techno legelőremutatóbb, legkísérletibb és experimentalista ágát, az elektronikus zenét teljesen új irányokba vivő stílusként, nem csupán a "kultúrsznobokat" magába olvasztva. Az IDM felépítése Ezen stílus legfőbb jellemzői a hangok nagy választéka valamint ezeknek az egységeknek a szerző által nagyon precízen egésszé való komponálása. De a hangok és azok egységének komplexitása önmagában még nem mondható IDM zenének, mivel a szerző által való nagy fokú kontroll is nagy szerepet játszik a zene kifinomultságának kialakításánál. Kétféle hang csupán kétféleképpen megszólaltatva (dob és cin) és mindössze 4 időbeni egységenkénti megszólaltatás lehetőségével nem hagy nagy beleszólást az előadó számára, nem építhető fel belőle intelligens zene. Manapság, leggyakrabban számítógépekkel történik a nagy mennyiségű hang precíz kontrollja a precíz felépítéshez. A legtöbb ilyen zene túl komplex hogy emberi aggyal vagy akár írott formában lejegyezhető legyen.
